This document and/or information has been drafted in Spanish, as Spanish is the official language of Uruguay, the country in which LACNIC is established and whose regulations it must comply with. Likewise, unofficial documents and/or information are also prepared in Spanish, as it is the language in which most of LACNIC’s advisors and staff communicate and work. Nevertheless, we make our best efforts to ensure that this translation is accurate and serves as a guide for our non-Spanish-speaking associates. However, discrepancies may exist between this translation and the original document and/or information drafted in Spanish. In all cases, the original text drafted in Spanish shall prevail.
The Policy Development Process Co-Chair is an honorary (non-remunerated) position with a two-year term. PDP Co-Chairs are elected directly by the community through voting. The role is performed in a voluntary capacity, and they may be re-elected provided they meet the established eligibility criteria.
PDP Co-Chairs are responsible for leading and facilitating policy proposal discussions both on the Public Policy List and at the Public Policy Forum, assessing whether consensus has been reached, declaring the outcome, and ensuring compliance with all stages and deadlines of the process.
For more information, see Section 3.2. PDP Chairs of the LACNIC Policy Development Process.
Call for Nominations for the PDP Co-Chair Elections
LACNIC invites its community to participate in the election process to elect one (1) PDP Co-Chair in accordance with the provisions established in the Policy Development Process.
Through this call for nominations, eligible individuals may submit nominations and exercise their right to vote in the PDP Co-Chair Elections.
PDP Co-Chair Election Calendar
Important: The Board of Directors recommends refraining from sending electoral propaganda by mass messaging contacts obtained from the LACNIC database. It also reminds the community that mailing lists are provided for the discussion of specific topics and must not be used to distribute electoral propaganda.
For each election process, LACNIC publishes a detailed calendar that includes:
- Opening of the call for nominations: Date on which the reception of candidate nominations begins.
- Closing of the call for nominations: Deadline for submitting the required documentation.
- Publication of candidate names: Official list of candidates.
- Online voting period: Period during which eligible voters may cast their vote.
- Announcement of results: Publication of the names of the elected candidates.
Nomination Requirements
In order to be nominated, individuals must meet the following requirements:
- They must have subscribed to the Policy Mailing List at least 12 months prior to the date on which the election is announced.
- They must also meet one of the following requirements:
- Be the contact of a LACNIC member organization, or
- Be nominated by a member of LACNIC.
- Self-nominations are allowed.
The following limitations also apply:
- Individuals who hold a position at LACNIC (Board of Directors, Electoral Commission, or staff) may not be nominated. See Policy Development Process, Section 3.2.2.
Nominations may be submitted by LACNIC member organizations, considering that:
- Nominations must be submitted by the Membership Contact designated by the organization before LACNIC.
As part of the nomination process, candidates must accept the use, processing, and publication of their personal data to allow for their review and validation by the Electoral Commission.
Once the validation process has been completed, valid nominations will be published on the LACNIC website to inform the community.
The following considerations also apply:
- If there is only one candidate, it will not be necessary to hold the election. However, the LACNIC Board must ratify such candidate's appointment.
- If there are no candidates, the Board of Directors has the authority to appoint a person to fill this vacancy for the corresponding period.
- The functions, responsibilities, and obligations of this position are detailed in Section 3.2 of the Policy Development Process (PDP Chairs).
