Managing Legacy Resources

Legacy resources are IP addresses and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) assigned by InterNIC/IANA prior to the establishment of the current regional Internet registry system (28 December 1997) and which were not subsequently subject to a membership agreement with LACNIC.

Call Upon Organizations Holding Legacy IPv4 Resources

As the Regional Internet Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean, LACNIC is responsible for contributing to the legitimate and appropriate use of Internet number resources in the region, as well as for maintaining accurate, up-to-date, verifiable, and reliable registry information.

Within this framework, the LACNIC Board of Directors has decided to initiate an institutional process for formalizing its relationship with organizations that hold or use legacy IPv4 resources. The goal is to update the information associated with these resources and contribute to their legitimate and secure utilization.

If your organization believes it is subject to this process, you should contact LACNIC at contacto-registro@lacnic.net. In this message, your organization should identify itself as the holder or user of the resources. The LACNIC Registration Services team will then provide guidance on the next steps to be followed, request the appropriate documentation, and conduct an analysis of the case.

Deadline for the Call

Organizations have time to contact LACNIC for a period of six months from the publication date of this call.

Important Information

  • This is an institutional process approved by the LACNIC Board of Directors.
  • If an organization holding legacy resources does not contact LACNIC within the established deadline, or if, after review, it is unable to justify its right to use the IPv4 resources, the corresponding procedure will be applied.
  • This procedure may include placing the resources under quarantine and, where applicable, updating the associated public information in LACNIC's registry systems (including WHOIS/RDAP).
