LACNIC Updates Community Code of Conduct

December 15, 2020

The LACNIC Board approved an update to the Community Code of Conduct, an initiative implemented in 2019 to guarantee the inclusion, integration and security of the regional organization's participation spaces.

The updated version of the Code includes elements suggested by Oscar Messano, Clara Collado, Alexandra Dans, Jorge Villa and Carmen Denis, the group of community leaders who worked over a period of six months to identify potential improvements. As a result, the group came up with concrete suggestions to provide guidance regarding the relationships between community members and to strengthen the complaint process defined in the code.

Based on the results of the work of this group, it was decided to introduce the figure of Trusted Representatives and to create a guide and a form that can be used for submitting complaints.
Trusted Representatives are staff and community members designated by the LACNIC Board who will be available to provide their support to the community as well as information regarding the Code of Conduct. Their task will be to channel eventual complaints or address situations that occur in LACNIC's participation spaces and which require an immediate response.

Both the Trusted Representatives and the members of LACNIC's Ethics Committee will treat all information with the utmost confidentiality.

In addition, the Guide for Submitting a Complaint establishes a series of steps that can be followed in case of a breach of the Code of Conduct and includes a form that can be used to submit a complaint. These documents summarize everything one needs to know before submitting a complaint.

With the update of its Community Code of Conduct, LACNIC reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of inclusive and safe environments for all the members of its community.
