Election process to elect two (2) members of LACNIC's Board of Directors

The LACNIC Board recommends not distributing electoral propaganda by mass messaging contacts obtained from the LACNIC DB.

Likewise, the Board would also like to remind you that LACNIC mailing lists are provided for the discussion of specific topics and must therefore not be used to post electoral propaganda.

Official results

The Electoral Commission of LACNIC has the honor of confirming Maria del Carmen Denis Polanco and Gabriel Adonaylo to occupy the positions in the Board of Directors for the period of 3 years from January 1º, 2021 to December 31, 2023.

This interim results seeks to avoid the disclosure of unofficial results through channels external to LACNIC.

According to the provisions of LACNIC's bylaws and the calendar of this electoral process, between 14 October and 21 October, 2020, elections were held in order to select the two candidates who will occupy their seats on LACNIC's Board of Directors; votes were collected online.

After the voting period and its corresponding audit by the Electoral Commission, the elected candidates are:

Who can vote?

LACNIC members: Active “A” Members and Founding Members.

The organization must be current with their membership fees on the closing date for voter registration specified in this year's calendar (the list of organizations authorized to vote).

Each member organization has a designated representative in LACNIC's database (Nic Brasil – Nic Mexico), the organization’s membership contact, who will receive an email containing their voting link.

Each member is fully responsible for the veracity and update of their membership contact's name and email address, as well as the rest of the information included in LACNIC's database (Nic Brasil – Nic Mexico).

Online voting will be conducted using LACNIC's election software.

The number of votes assigned to each organization ranges from 1 to 11, depending on their membership category (the IP address space assigned to the organization):

Reason for the nomination: I have known Gabriel personally and professionally for more than 25 years. His participation has been key for the development of the Internet in both Argentina and the region. He played an essential role in the creation of NAP CABASE and later served as vice-president of the Argentine Internet Chamber. He is an active participant in the different regional and global Internet forums, especially in the meetings organized by LACNIC.

As a member of the LACNIC Board, Gabriel has shown that he has the professional track record, human qualities, and proven experience to continue facing the challenges with his characteristic responsibility and leadership skills.

About the Call for Candidates and the Positions on the Board of Directors

The two (2) candidates who are elected will occupy a position on the LACNIC Board for a period of 3 (three) years as of January 1, 2021.

How many members are part of the Board of Directors?

According to the Bylwas, the Board of Directors consists of seven members who make up the following honorary positions:

President, Vice-President, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer and Regular Member.

Note: Each year, after the renewal of its members, the Board of Directors shall appoint the positions to be held by its members

Important Information Regarding this Election Process

WHO CAN BE A CANDIDATE?

Candidates must be citizens of the countries or territories that are part of LACNIC's service region.

Not more than two members with the same citizenship may be elected (*).

Only one member may have employment or consulting relationships with the same company or organization.

Candidates may or not be part of the organization submitting the nomination (self-nominations are allowed).

(*) Given that the Bylaws establish that members of the Board of Directors must be citizens of different countries Brazilian candidates will not be accepted for these elections.

Nominations are verified by the Electoral Commission based on the following regulations:

Board Meetings

The LACNIC Board of Directors meets periodically (approximately 10 times a year) through telephone conferences or web conferences with an approximate duration of 2 hours.

In addition, it holds 3 face-to-face meetings a year, two of which take place during LACNIC's main events, and the third usually at the end of November or beginning of December at LACNIC's headquarters.
