The Electoral Commission of LACNIC has the honor of confirming Vivian Valverde Arguello and Nancy Julia Cordova Gamarra to occupy two positions in the Electoral Commission of LACNIC for the period of 3 years from this moment and until the end of the electoral process of 2023.

This interim results seeks to avoid the disclosure of unofficial results through channels external to LACNIC.

According to the provisions of LACNIC's bylaws and the calendar of this electoral process, between 18 and 25 of May, 2020, elections were held in order to select the candidates who will occupy two seats on LACNIC's Electoral Commission; votes were collected online.

After the voting period and its corresponding audit by the Electoral Commission, the elected candidates are:

Reason for the nomination: Vivian is an excellent professional who is very committed to the community, active in the growth of the Internet in the region, with extensive knowledge and participation in the Internet Addresses Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean, its processes, specific interest groups, policy development and election processes. The growth of the community has posed new challenges and demanded adjustments to the procedures. Vivian has been part of this transformation and I believe that the continuity of her work will be valuable to ensure the positive results that have been achieved to date.

About the Call for Candidates and the Positions on the Commission

The call for candidates for a position on LACNIC’s Fiscal Commission is now open.

How many members are part of this commission? Five.

What are their powers and responsibilities?

The five members are responsible for the monitoring and certification of the election processes for LACNIC's Bylaws-mandated bodies, i.e., the Electoral Commission, the Fiscal Commission and the Board of Directors.

The Electoral Commission is also charged by the LACNIC Board to verify, certify and audit the elections to select the chairs of the Policy Development Process.

Important Information Regarding this Election Process

WHO CAN BE A CANDIDATE?

Candidates must be citizens of the countries or territories that are part of LACNIC's service region.

Not more than one member with the same citizenship may be elected (*).

Only one member may have employment or consulting relationships with the same company or organization.

Candidates may or not be part of the organization submitting the nomination (self-nominations are allowed).

(*) Given that the Bylaws establish that members of the Electoral Commission must be citizens of different countries, Argentinian, Brazilian and Chilean candidates will not be accepted for these elections.

WHO CAN SUBMIT A NOMINATION?

A LACNIC member: Active “A” Member or Founding Member.

Nominations must be submitted by the designated representative included in LACNIC's database (Nic Brasil – Nic Mexico): the organization's membership contact.

The organization submitting the nomination must be current with their membership fees.

Each organization may only nominate one candidate per vacancy.

WHO CAN VOTE?

LACNIC members: Active “A” Members and Founding Members.

The organization must be current with their membership fees on the closing date for voter registration specified in this year's calendar (the list of organizations authorized to vote).

Each member organization has a designated representative in LACNIC's database (Nic Brasil – Nic Mexico), the organization’s membership contact, who will receive an email containing their voting link.

Each member is fully responsible for the veracity and update of their membership contact's name and email address, as well as the rest of the information included in LACNIC's database (Nic Brasil – Nic Mexico).

Online voting will be conducted using LACNIC's election software.

The number of votes assigned to each organization ranges from 1 to 11, depending on their membership category (the IP address space assigned to the organization):
