About the LACNIC Board of Directors and their Election Process
Positions
Under the LACNIC Bylaws, the Board of Directors is composed of nine members who hold the following honorary positions: president, vice president, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, and deputy treasurer.
Powers and Responsibilities
Each position is responsible for specific tasks, which are described in the following chapters:

VII (Abut the Secretary)
VIII (About the Treasurer)
IX (About the Vice President, Deputy Secretary, and Deputy Treasurer).
Terms and Incompatibilities (Articles 20.1 and 24.1)
- Directors each serve a three (calendar) year term.
- Directors are eligible for reelection, provided that they meet the eligibility criteria.
- Each year, they are partially renewed in groups of three.
- No more than two directors may be citizens of the same country or territory.
- No more than one director may have employment, consultancy, or advisory relationships with the same company or organization and/or with one of its related companies, whether established in the same country or not.
Article 24.1 - The Board of Directors decides the position in which each member shall serve. Article 20.1
- LACNIC’s Executive Director/CEO participates in Board meetings with rights equal to those of a director, except for the right to vote. Article 20.1
Board Meetings
Article 23: The Board of Directors meets at least once every three months, on the date and at the time decided during their first annual meeting. The Board of Directors may also meet when summoned by the President, at the request of the Fiscal Commission, or at the request of two board members.
Meetings of the Board of Directors are valid with the presence of the absolute majority of its designated members.
LACNIC Code of Ethics
Just as the LACNIC staff, the Board of Directors is bound by the LACNIC Code of Ethics.
Elections
Who can be nominated? How are nominations submitted?
- Citizens of the countries or territories that are part of the LACNIC service region who meet the requirements specified in Article 20.1
- Through an Active A o Founding Member organization's membership contact. Article 7
- The organization submitting the nomination must be current with their membership fees. Article 9
- Candidates may or may not be part of the organization submitting their nomination (self-nominations are allowed).
- Each organization may only nominate one candidate per vacancy.
- Candidates must be endorsed by two members other than the member submitting the nomination, who at the same time must endorse the accuracy of the information submitted by the candidate in their nomination, as well as the candidate's competency and suitability. Article 25
- Applicants must successfully complete the Competency Assessment. Article 24.1
Who can vote? How does voting take place?
- Member organizations: Active A and Founding members.
- No outstanding balance on their account statement on the date the voters registry closes. Article 25.
- Voting will be conducted online using LACNIC's election software. Article 25.
- The number of votes for each organization ranges from 1 to 11, depending on their membership category (the IP address space assigned to the organization). Article 19.
- Each member organization has an institutional representative registered in the LACNIC database. This person will be able to vote through the MiLACNIC portal (milacnic.lacnic.net). This option is not available to organizations in Brazil, as they do not have access to MiLACNIC. Instead, these organizations will receive an email containing their organization's voting link.
- Each member is fully responsible for the veracity and update of their membership contact's name and email address, as well as for the rest of the information included in the LACNIC database.
