Workshop and Applied Learning Exercise for Computer Emergency Response Teams
Workshop and Applied Learning Exercise for Computer Emergency Response Teams
Montevideo, Uruguay, 26-28 August 2013
Experts from around the world visit Montevideo to take part in a regional computer security incident response capability exercise
On 26-28 August, 2013 a practical workshop on cyber-attack simulation for the Americas will be held at the NH Columbia Hotel in Montevideo, Uruguay. One of the main goals of this activity is to help member countries prepare against cyber security attacks and encourage joint computer security efforts, as well as to serve as a reliable point of contact for the central coordination of cyber security efforts aimed at identifying, protecting, responding to and managing cyber threats.
The workshop has been organized by the international Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT), and is locally hosted by the Internet Address Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean (LACNIC) and co-hosted by the Agency the for Development of the Information Society and Electronic Government (AGESIC). The workshop is supported by its strategic partners TCG and ABI Research, as well as by Bitdefender.
The increase in malicious activity in cyberspace threatens information and Communication Technology (iCT) infrastructure, creating an urgent need for teams prepared to respond to cyber emergencies at national level. When a computer security problem occurs, it is crucial for the organization concerned to have the means to respond quickly and effectively. The speed with which an organization can recognize an incident or attack and then analyze it in order to respond successfully will drastically limit the damage and reduce the cost of recovery.
This workshop - Applied Learning for Cyber Emergency Response Teams - will be attended by computer security experts from several Latin American and Caribbean countries as well as by expert presenters from other regions. The purpose of the workshop is to improve the communication and response capabilities of Cyber Emergency Response Teams (CERT) throughout the region; it also seeks to build national and international cooperation among participating countries.
The role of iTU-iMPACT in this activity is to show Member Countries the importance of standard operating procedures, communications and response policies in case of cyber security incidents and to identify future plans and improvement processes.
