Technical IPv6 Training at LACNIC 31
During its meeting held in Punta Cana, LACNIC organized two tutorials to provide training on IPv6 to the region's professionals and promote the deployment of the protocol in the different countries of the region.
Juan Carlos Alonso, Head of IT Operations at LACNIC, presented the tutorial titled IPv6 for Decision Makers. The presentation focused on the importance of IPv6 deployment for any organization and shared examples of recent success stories around the region.
Speaking to an audience of approximately forty people, Alonso stressed that IPv6 is the best technical and financial solution to the problem of IP address scarcity in the region and worldwide. He noted that deploying IPv6 networks will allow companies and organizations to continue doing business on the Internet and offer new services to their customers.
Faced with the increasing cost of IPv4 addresses in the secondary market, Alonso encouraged company decision makers to deploy IPv6.
Alonso also highlighted the growth of IPv6 use in Latin America and the Caribbean, observing that this is now another relevant argument when trying to convince company managers to deploy the protocol and not lag behind their competitors.
The second tutorial organized within the framework of the LACNIC event in Punta Cana was Advanced IPv6. Alejandro Acosta, Jordi Palet, Alejandro D’Egidio and Jorge Cano presented the tutorial to more than 150 participants.
Designed for participants with experience working with the IPv6 protocol, this workshop shared advanced knowledge on IPv6 operation, particularly the deployment of IPv6-only with IPv4 as a service. The instructors presented addressing plans, transition mechanisms, IPv6 and IPv4 in fixed and mobile networks, and IPv6 deployment in cable networks. They also demoed an Internet connection using Jool software.
