LACNIC Set to Welcome a Father of the Internet

Vint Cerf, an American computer scientist widely known as a "Father of the Internet" and current Global Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist at Google is visiting Montevideo for three days.

While in the Uruguayan capital, Cerf will deliver a lecture at the Casa de Internet for Latin America and the Caribbean titled "The Future of the Internet, Challenges and Opportunities."

Cerf's conference is scheduled for Thursday, December 3rd from 11:45 to 13:30 and will be attended by members of the LACNIC Board, LACNIC staff, the organizations which are part of Casa de Internet ?the Internet Society, RedCLARA (the Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks), LACTLD (the Association of Latin American and Caribbean ccTLDs), eCOM-LAC (the Latin American and Caribbean Internet and e-Commerce Federation), ASIET (the Ibero American Association of Research Centers and Telecommunication Companies), and ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers)?, as well as Uruguayan government authorities, university representatives, LACNIC members, and other guests.

In addition to inventing the set of protocols which allow computers to exchange data, Cerf was one of the founders of the Internet Society and the organization's first president.
