LACNIC Board Announces Changes in Its Executive Management

Montevideo, 12 August 2024

The LACNIC Board of Directors announces changes in the organization's executive management following the decision of LACNIC CEO Oscar Robles-Garay to conclude a very fulfilling and institutionally successful professional chapter by ending his employment relationship with LACNIC before the end of the year.

“During these nearly 10 years under Oscar’s leadership, LACNIC has strengthened and consolidated its position as an organization, achieving and maintaining levels of excellence. This is evident in the satisfaction of our members, event participants, and a positive work environment, as well as in the strengthening of our team and internal processes, and the professionalization at the management and board levels,” stressed Alejandro Guzman, Chairman of the LACNIC Board.

“This decision follows family plans. For nearly a decade, my family has supported me through this incredible journey full of personal and professional challenges. It is hard to step away from the best job in the world, but the time has come to focus on our family unit. Moreover, LACNIC has worked to ensure that the organization does not depend on a single individual and conditions are in place to guarantee an orderly transition to the new leadership,” said Oscar Robles.

Since 2017, LACNIC has been working on a Succession Plan for executive and management positions aimed at developing potential candidates who could eventually assume leadership roles if needed. The Board defined its expectations for the position and evaluated the relevance and feasibility of using this succession plan. Once the plan's suitability was confirmed, the Board validated that the necessary competencies for the role were in place.

In this context, the Board of Directors decided to appoint Ernesto Majó as LACNIC CEO. His term will take effect on 1st November 2024. Ernesto has more than 20 years of experience within the organization, having served in various positions, including his recent performance as Deputy Executive Director for the past nine years, during which he played an active role in the process of institutional strengthening.

Ernesto's appointment ensures continuity and stability during the operational and strategic transition of an organization that is unique on a global scale. Ernesto is well-acquainted with the expectations of LACNIC members and the extended community and is a natural leader who maintains close relationships with the Staff.

“I would like to thank the Board of Directors for trusting me to lead LACNIC in the coming years, a responsibility that I accept with enormous pride and commitment. LACNIC is a strong organization, with an excellent team, deeply committed to its community, aware of our responsibility, and I am prepared for this challenge,” said Ernesto Majó.

Over the next few months, Oscar and Ernesto will be working together with the Board of Directors to ensure a smooth transition.
