LACTLD 15th Anniversary
LACTLD, a key player in the regional Internet ecosystem.
The Latin American and Caribbean Internet Address Registry (LACNIC) congratulates LACTLD, the regional organization which brings together country code top-level domain administrators in Latin America and the Caribbean, on its 15th anniversary.
LACTLD was created in 1998 to represent regional interests in the area of domain names and promote capacity building in registries with offices in Latin America and the Caribbean. That first meeting in Buenos Aires was attended by representatives of Argentina (.ar), Bolivia (.bo), Brazil (.br), Chile (.cl), Mexico (.mx), Peru (.pe) and Uruguay (.uy). Over time, representatives of every country in Latin America and the Caribbean joined the organization.
In the course of these 15 years, LACTLD went from being a good idea to becoming one of the foremost organizations in the regional Internet ecosystem, stated LACNIC's CEO Raúl Echeberría.
"Greetings and congratulations to all those who have been linked to LACTLD's history all these years, all the way from those few colleagues sitting around a round table in Buenos Aires at the IFWP meeting in 1998 to those who are now at the helm of this major organization in these interesting times, "said Mr Echeberría.
Long live LACTLD.
