DNS Measurements

The DNS is one of the pillars of Internet infrastructure. Any transaction—even reverse queries—begins with a DNS request to obtain the IP address associated with a name.

DNS information is distributed and comprises the following elements: resolvers, recursive servers, and authoritative servers. 

This architecture includes some services that are worth highlighting, such as the authoritative servers for the root zone (root servers), the authoritative servers that manage the ccTLD zones, and the public recursive servers.

Given the role of the DNS in Internet architecture, monitoring its operation and its global protection are essential. To perform these functions, it is crucial to know how to use certain tools such as DNSSEC and RPK.
