LACNIC To Launch IP Geolocation Initiative

LACNIC's Technology Department has been working on developing a beta geolocation application for the IP addresses used by organizations and companies in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Geo Feeds project will allow our members to enter information on where the IP addresses they have been assigned are being used.

In order for this service to become a useful tool, LACNIC is encouraging the administrative contacts of its member organizations to login to https://geofeeds.lacnic.net/geo/login and enter the geolocation information for the IP addresses they have been assigned and for those they have, in turn, sub-assigned.

Geo Feeds will also complement the Whois services, as it feeds on the information contained in the service agreement signed between each member and LACNIC or the customer addresses specified by each member.

This tool will allow gathering the information entered by LACNIC members and knowing the actual location where the IP addresses are being used (including details such as country, sub-region, city and/or post code), thus helping improve geolocation services. The information collected through the platform will be public.

The use of this platform is optional and at this stage the LACNIC staff is very interested in hearing user feedback.
