Nicolás Antoniello
Nicolás Antoniello obtained his Electrical Engineering degree specializing in Electronics and Telecommunications from Universidad de la Republica in Montevideo, Uruguay.
For more than ten years, he has been an active participant in various topics related to the Internet and Telecommunications at both regional and global level. He has served in different capacities in various regional forums and working groups and is the author of regional and global Internet resource management policies. He has also prepared and taught different courses related to IT and Telecommunications and has participated in multiple networking and Internet projects, as well as in the design, operation, configuration, maintenance and updating of network equipment, computer systems and datacenters, local and regional Internet connectivity, content distribution and capacity planning, among others.
He has been teaching at the School of Engineering of Universidad de la Republica and the School of Engineering at ORT University, both in Montevideo, Uruguay since 2004. From 2003 to 2015, he worked as an Engineer at ANTEL, a Uruguayan telecommunications company, where he served in different roles, among them, as an Engineer at the Operation Center of the ANTEL Public Network, Network Design and Planning within ANTEL's Technical Development Division, International Internet Strategy at the Deputy Strategic General Manager's Office, Expert Engineer attached to the General Manager's Office, and as Advisor to the Company President's Office.
He is a founding member of Uruguay's IPv6 Task Force, the GOLD Uruguay group within the IEEE (an organization he joined more than 10 years ago), and the Internet Society's Uruguay Chapter, as well as founding member and Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Network Operators Forum (LACNOG)
In 2008, he received a LACNIC sponsorship and completed the three phases of the Internet Governance Capacity Building Program (IGCBP) organized by DiploFoudation (http://www.diplomacy.edu/), having completed the Foundation Internet Governance Capacity Building Program and the Advanced Internet Governance Capacity Building Program, as well as the final research stage, the results of which were presented during the annual IGF meeting (Hyderabad, India; December 2008).
Between May 2009 and June 2015, he served as co-chair of LACNIC's Public Policy Forum, a role for which he was nominated by ANTEL and elected by the community for three consecutive terms. During the LACNIC 18 meeting and within the framework of LACNIC's 10th anniversary celebrations, Nicolas was presented with an award for his contribution to the community and his work as Forum Chair.
In May 2010, he was selected by ICANN and the Internet community as a Trusted Community Representative to serve as Backup Crypto Officer for the root zone signing of the DNS.
In June 2010, he was appointed ANTEL's representative to UNIT (Uruguay's National Technical Standardization Institute), where he served on a committee tasked with adapting and adopting different international standards relating to Information Technology and Information Technology Governance. He is currently serving as Advisor to the Minister and National Director of Telecommunications at the Uruguayan Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining.
He continues to attend and actively participate in LACNIC and LACNOG activities, as well as in those of other organizations which are part of the Internet ecosystem (ISOC, ICANN, UIT, CITEL, etc.) and has presented proposals, lectures and tutorials at many of these events.
