LACNIC is the organization responsible for assigning Internet number resources in Latin America and the Caribbean. The rules that LACNIC follows for this process are recorded in a public document.

This tutorial seeks to offer the community some basic knowledge of this document, which contains the rules that determine how LACNIC must assign Internet resources (IPv4, IPv6 and ASNs). It also seeks to share how the community can be part of this process.

Some of the rules contained in the document and that will be discussed during the tutorial include resource revocation and transfers. 

There will be special guests who have participated in the development of this document since its creation.

The BGP protocol plays a critical role in Internet communications. It facilitates the exchange of information over IP networks and communications between autonomous systems (AS). Therefore, it is necessary to understand BGP and be aware of its vulnerabilities, as its operation in the context of the global Internet involves certain aspects that in recent times have increased their complexity due to certain security events such as route hijacking and route leaks.
This tutorial comprises several parts. During the morning session, instructors will present the basics of the BGP protocol, as well as current recommendations and best practices for both carrier/ISP environments and end-user organizations. Participants will also work on practical activities focusing on inter-domain and intra-domain scenarios:

• Basic routing configuration
• Routing announcements
• Filter creation

In the afternoon session, we will present some of the new trends in routing security, specifically origin validation using resource certification (RPKI).

• Route hijacking and leaks
• Resource certification (RPKI)
• Practice in creating ROAs

Requirements:

• Laptop con VirtualBox 6.0.12 platform packages y VirtualBox 6.0.12 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack
• Admin credentials for the Mi LACNIC platform for the hands-on activities participants will complete in the second session.

This tutorial will teach you how to use RIPEStat and RIPE Atlas to monitor and troubleshoot your network. Participants will learn about the different tools and services and complete practical, guided exercises.
RIPEstat provides data on IP prefixes, Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) and related information for names and countries, all in a single location.
RIPE Atlas is one of the world's largest Internet measurement platforms. Its network comprises 10,000 probes and allows actively measuring connectivity (ping, traceroute and more). More information: RIPE Atlas in Latin America and the Caribbean

For the Hands-On Demonstration, a few basic CCNA knowledge is required. Switch configuration and switch port configuration is a must.

Multiple security threats can currently affect the proper operation of an Internet service provider. By simply connecting to the Internet, the provider can become the object of DDoS, IP and route hijacking, intrusions, information theft, and other attacks in a matter of seconds.

This is why it is important for network administrators to be prepared. Some good security practices are relatively easy to implement and involve low implementation costs, yet they will help protect your devices, your network, as well as other companies.

In this tutorial we will explore the most frequent security incidents. We will also show how an Autonomous System can protect itself using equipment hardening techniques and good security practices (detailed in the MANRS document). The activity will explain the theory behind the different topics and include practical exercises using the EVE-ng lab (network emulation platform).

Participants must bring their own laptop computers.
