Daily recap - Monday

Welcome to the first daily recap of our activities at LACNIC 30 LACNOG 2018!

The event kicked off this Monday at the Ros Tower Convention Center in Rosario, Argentina. The first day of activities included five tutorials and a session for participants attending a LACNIC event for the first time.

Newcomers Session

The morning began with a session for newcomers. LACNIC CEO Oscar Robles welcomed everyone to the event, after which members of LACNIC staff presented a brief overview of the activities scheduled for the week.

Tutorials

During the morning, Gianina Penski, LACNIC's Policy and Training Coordinator, presented the tutorial “HANDS-ON: How to Change Internet Policies.” This tutorial was held in workshop format and allowed everyone to share their ideas on the topics that are currently being discussed in our region so that participants will have the knowledge and information needed to participate in the policy development process.

Also during the morning, participants had the chance to attend the tutorial “Resource Management/Mi LACNIC,” presented by Sergio Rojas and Rodrigo Zambrana of LACNIC. During this tutorial, the instructors presented the features of the Mi LACNIC platform, which was launched last year.

In addition, Alejandro Acosta, Jordi Palet and Ariel Weher presented a new edition of the Advanced IPv6 tutorial. For the first time, this tutorial included a hands-on section during which participants worked together to deploy an IPv6-only ISP.

The BGP/RPKI tutorial was held as a parallel activity. Led by Mariela Rocha, Gerardo Rada, Erika Vega and Guillermo Cicileo, the tutorial comprised a section where the instructors presented the theory and key concepts of the BGP protocol along with recommendations and current best practices, followed by a section where participants had the chance to solve practical exercises.

The DNSSEC tutorial was also presented with a practical format. There, instructors Mauricio Vergara, Sebastián Castro, Mauricio Oviedo and Hugo Salgado explained the basics of DNSSEC, how to sign a zone, and how to configure a validation resolver.

The day ended with a welcome cocktail at Terrazas del Paraná.

We invite you to join us tomorrow at 09:00 (local time) for the opening ceremony. We also remind you that you can visit the LACNIC Stand where, throughout the week, we will be providing information about the services and activities LACNIC offers.

Stay tuned for our daily recaps!

Thanks for reading,
The LACNIC Team.
