LACNIC Calls Upon Organizations Holding Legacy IPv4 Resources

LACNIC has launched an institutional process aimed at organizations that hold or use legacy IPv4 resources in Latin America and the Caribbean. Legacy resources are IP addresses and ASNs assigned by InterNIC or IANA prior to the establishment of the current regional Internet registry system (28 December 1997) and which were not subsequently subject to a membership agreement with LACNIC.

As the Regional Internet Registry for the region, LACNIC is responsible for contributing to the legitimate, appropriate, and secure use of Internet number resources, as well as for maintaining accurate, up-to-date, and reliable registry information.

In this context, the LACNIC Board of Directors has decided to launch this call with the aim of formalizing the relationship with organizations holding legacy IPv4 resources. The goal is to increase the precision, transparency, and traceability of the Internet number registry in the region, for the benefit of resource holders, the technical community, and the Internet ecosystem as a whole.

Organizations that have been assigned legacy IPv4 resources, or that believe they may be affected by this process, should contact LACNIC at contacto-registro@lacnic.net. In their communication, organizations should identify themselves as holders or users of the resources. LACNIC's Registration Services team will then specify the steps the organization must take to justify their right to use the resources.

Organizations have six months from the publication of this call to contact LACNIC. The deadline for contacting LACNIC is 16 December 2026.

If an organization holding legacy resources does not contact LACNIC within this period or is unable to justify its right to use the resources, LACNIC will cease providing registration services to that organization.
