Jorge Luis Legrá Álvarez

Cuba

Legrá Alvarez holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Instituto Superior Politecnico Jose Antonio Echeverria (Havana, Cuba) and a Master's degree in Marketing and Business Administration from Escuela Superior de Estudios de Marketing (Madrid, Spain).

He has worked with Cuba's Telecommunications Company since 1987, and has accompanied the evolution of analog networks to TDM and IP. During the past 16 years, he has consistently worked in the area providing Internet services, including the planning, investment, sales and marketing departments. Lately, he has been working directly in the strategic planning of the telecommunication network based on technological convergence.

Various Cuban institutions regularly seek his advice on designs or projects that will allow an optimal use of resources for interconnecting different agencies on a private network over the public telecommunications network, including, among others, the banking network, the health system's network, and the tourism network. He also mentors undergraduate students of Computer Engineering and Telecommunication preparing their thesis projects.

In 2008, Legrá Alvarez was appointed LACNIC membership contact for Cuba's Telecommunications Company and has regularly attended every meeting held to date. He is currently coordinating the participation of his company in LAC-IX and the deployment of a root server in Cuba.

In addition, he is currently working in the Health sector, more specifically on the Action Plan for Latin America and the Caribbean (ELAC) of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
