Internet resources allocated by LACNIC are not subjected to transfer or for sale. That is because resources were allocated to organizations that met the criteria for the initial allocation. Allocations are valid while the initial allocation criterias are met and there is no pending issue with LACNIC.
Althought, LACNIC recognizes situations when the transfer of a resource from one organization to other is necessary. Situations when transfer are justfied are those due to merge, aquisition, reorganization and even name changing.
If the organization goes out of business, the contact person of the company is not allowed to sell or transfer the resources to other organization and is obliged to return these resources to LACNIC.
In the case of resources not allocated directly by LACNIC, its transfer should be requested to the Internet provider or to the proper NIR (National Internet Registry).
It is allowed to transfer resources that are primordial for the provision of a service acquired by the organization to which they are being transferred. For example, IP addresses that are used by a purchased dial-up access service are allowed to be transferred.
To request a transfer of resources allocated by LACNIC one organization should fill up the template indicated above and then sent it to hostmaster@lacnic.net . Once it is verified and no error was found, an e-mail is sent back with the "ticket" number that identifies this request in our system.
During the transfer process analysis LACNIC may ask for the following documents:
- authenticated copy of the document that proves the transfer of goods between the organizations. For example, transfer of ownership letter, merging certificate, contract, etc;
- a detailed inventory of the goods using the resources involved in the transfer;
- a list of customers that use part of the IP addresses of the organization requesting the transfer;
It may be necessary to request to the organization the following documents:
- a list of the acquired goods;
- a description of the acquired goods including type and amount of equipment and clients;
- a description of how the IP addresses will be used;
- a network topology, including number of machines, network mask, network diagram, and customer assignations.
The organization requesting the transfer should be aware of a a fee associated to it.
The organization requesting transfer of legacy resources should also be aware that those resource will be subjected to renovation or maintenance fee, to which they were free until the transfer. |
