New computer security experts for the region

More than 48 Central American professionals representing private companies and public agencies received training on sensitive information and incident management from LACNIC

Close to fifty IT professionals representing Central American government agencies, private companies and universities met in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to receive training and analyze the main security issues currently being faced by the region.

This new group of specialists joins the professionals already trained through the AMPARO project, an initiative supported by the Internet Address Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean (LACNIC).

Professionals representing the public and private sectors of Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua participated in the Computer Security Workshop organized by LACNIC with the support of Hondutel, the event's local host.

During the meeting, specialized instructors provided information and training on the creation of national Computer Security Incident Response Teams, how to handle sensitive information on the Internet, and how to manage security incidents (phishing).

Carlos Martínez, CTO at LACNIC, was pleased with participants' feedback and noted that the goal of the seminar was "to build computer incident response capabilities" in the area of influence of Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. As an example, he noted the case of participants representing NIC.cr (Costa Rica) who have proposed the creation of a CSIRT in their country.

These workshops help coordinate regional efforts to address the growing security challenges posed by the significant increase in the number of online social and economic transactions. Participants learn how to limit the impact of criminal and terrorist actions targeting the region's organizations and institutions.

The AMPARO Project promotes the creation of Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs), for which it has created original content to train computer security experts throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. AMPARO also strives for community participation in the exchange of experiences and knowledge and the development of technical material on relevant issues in the field of computer security.
