After an in-depth and thorough selection process, LACNIC's Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Oscar Robles as LACNIC's new Chief Executive Officer.
Since Raúl Echeberría's resignation to the position of Executive Director was announced, the Board has focused on identifying the most appropriate candidate to meet the organization's challenges in the coming years. At the same time, in order to ensure that the full continuity of LACNIC's action plans and leadership within Latin America and the Caribbean would be maintained during the transition, Ernesto Majó, the organization's External Relations and Communications Manager, was appointed Acting Director.
During the selection process, the Board reviewed dozens of outstanding proposals submitted from throughout the region and sought to identify the person whose profile was most suited to such an important position.
The Board has chosen Oscar A. Robles Garay to address the challenges organization and the Latin American and Caribbean Internet will face from now on.
Oscar Robles is recognized as a leader and expert in Internet governance policies. At regional level, he has promoted the creation of Latin American and Caribbean organizations such as LACTLD (which he chaired), LACNIC and .LAT. At global level, he has been a part of the Numbers Council and multiple ICANN working committees. He has successfully served as NIC Mexico's CEO for almost 20 years and is part of LACNIC's Executive Council since 2003, a position to which he will resign before assuming his duties as the organization's new Executive Director. Oscar holds a degree in Computer Systems and a master's degree in Information Technology Administration. He has also completed a number of specialization courses on Management, Leadership, and Strategic Planning, both in Mexico and abroad.
Oscar Robles will be serving as Executive Director starting on 1st February 2015 and will work out of LACNIC's Montevideo offices.
